How to Make Exploding Ninja Stars with Popsicle Sticks ✨

Today on Science with Violet, we’re making Exploding Ninja Stars! Don’t worry, they’re not dangerous—you just need some popsicle sticks, a little patience, and the magic of tension (that’s when two forces push and pull against each other at the same time—kind of like tug-of-war). What You’ll Need: 10 popsicle sticks A clear space to play (because these stars really pop! ✨) Step 1: Make the Base Take three Popsicle sticks and stack them in the shape of a W. The middle part of the W should be the stick on the bottom. This makes your foundation. Step 2: Start Weaving Now the fun part begins! Take your next stick and slide it behind the middle stick, but in front of the two side sticks. The next one goes behind the two side sticks but in front of the middle stick. Keep alternating this pattern so your sticks start weaving together. Step 3: Build the Star Careful! Don’t let the sticks slide too far apart—you need them snug and tight. That’s what builds the tension. Step 4: Make It Explode 💥 Once you’ve woven about ten sticks, gently toss your star forward. The built-up tension will snap apart, making your star explode! The Science Behind It This experiment works because of tension. Each stick is pushing and pulling against the others. When you release it, all that stored energy is let out at once just like a mini explosion!
